Financial Studies

What is Financial Studies?

Finance is a field that deals with the allocation of assets and liabilities over time under conditions of certainty and uncertainty. Finance can also be defined as the science of money management. Finance consists of financial systems, which include the public, private and government spaces, and the study of finance and financial instruments, which can relate to countless assets and liabilities. Some prefer to divide finance into three distinct categories: public finance, corporate finance and personal finance. All three of which would contain many sub-categories.

Financial Studies therefore enhances the ability to make informed financial decisions through effective planning to manage the risks and challenges involved in finance. Students are provided with the opportunity to develop and enhance the knowledge and skills gained by applying them to the wider financial environment. This includes areas such as financial sustainability within the wider financial services system, and the long-term impact of debt. Through this, a greater understanding of the impact that global events can have upon consumers and the wider financial services industry is developed.
